Central City Health (CCH), a Detroit-based nonprofit and Federally Qualified Health Center serving residents of Detroit and Wayne County since 1972, welcomes residents to come out to its Community Health Fair event on Tuesday, June 25.

The event, scheduled from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Eastern Market (2934 Russell Street), Shed 3, offers residents the opportunity to connect with health care professionals for a variety of free health screenings and consultations in the areas of medical, dental and behavioral health care. All services offered at the health fair will be provided regardless of an individual’s insurance status.

Health screenings and services offered at the Community Health Fair event will include:

  • Primary care health screenings and information
  • Mental health screenings and information
  • Dental screenings and information
  • Asthma education and resources
  • Planned Parenthood information
  • Head Start information

Fun is also on the menu at the family-friendly event, which will offer free food, games, music, and raffles for prizes. Food at the Community Health Fair will include hot dogs, chicken, chips, fruits and juices. CCH’s Medical Mobile unit — which is used to treat residents throughout the city — will also be on display at the event.

Dr. Kimberly Farrow-Felton, President and CEO of Central City Health, said the event is representative of CCH’s goal of bringing their services to the people, especially Detroit residents who most need their support.
“The integrated care approach we take at Central City Health goes far beyond the people who come into our clinics. We actively do outreach with our street team to reach the homeless population and other underserved populations in our city,” Dr. Farrow-Felton said. “This Community Health Fair is an extension of that mindset, as we welcome all members of the city who have health care needs to come out to our event and get much-needed, often overdue health care without worrying about cost.”

CCH, which operates multiple locations in Detroit and is based at 10 Peterboro St. in Midtown, offers a fully integrated wraparound health care model aimed at caring for Detroit and Wayne County’s most vulnerable populations — including the homeless and those living with HIV. Among the key themes of the Health Fair is “Let’s Stop HIV Together”. In line with that theme, free birth control items will also be distributed at the Health Fair.

Vendors are welcome at the Community Health Fair and may also provide screenings at the event. To become a vendor, contact CCH Community Outreach Liaison Anthony Yanish at ayanish@centralcityhealth.com, or call (313) 666-1795, or Community Outreach Director Norris Howard at nhoward@centralcityhealth.com or (313) 733-1303.

Several dignitaries and legislative leaders are scheduled to make appearances at the Community Health Fair.

Dr. Farrow-Felton said she appreciates the support from leaders at the city and state level.

“As Central City Health works every day to achieve our goals of improving the quality of health care for all residents of the City of Detroit, we are thankful for all the support we receive from the elected leaders of Detroit and throughout Michigan,” Farrow-Felton said. “Our partnerships with the city have helped boost our abilities to serve those who need our help the most. We look forward to continuing those relationships and seeing these leaders at our Community Health Fair event.”
