The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is the principal finance and administration officer of Detroit Central City CMH (DCC), a non-profit community mental health organization. S/he will be responsible for all financial administration, payroll, business planning, budgeting, and forecasting. The CFO will also lead the property development and information technology (IT) areas. As a member of the senior leadership team, the CFO will work closely with the finance committee of the board of directors.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Partner with the CEO on all operational and strategic issues as they arise; provide strategic recommendations to the president based on financial analysis and projections, cost identification and allocation, and revenue/expense analysis
• Participate in the ongoing strategic planning process as an integral member of the senior management team
• Engage the leadership team to align financial management with short- and long-term financial planning and projections
• Engage the board finance committee around issues, trends, and changes in the operating model and operational delivery

Financial and Operational Management
• Oversee budgeting and the implementation of budgets so as to monitor progress and present operational metrics both internally and externally
• Ensure that finance staff maintains financial record systems in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, and monitors the use of all funds
• Oversee the preparation and approval of all internal and external financial reporting materials
• Assist in the financial modeling and negotiation of agreements with funders, government agencies, contractors and other stakeholders
• Oversee development and maintenance of related policies and procedures
• Manage cash flow and forecasting; direct all financial, project-based, and departmental accounting
• Ensure staff receive accurate pay on a timely basis and requisite reports are filed
• Coordinate all audit activities

Property Development
• Review and recommend service agreements and contracts
• Review capital budgets, management, and operating reports
• Manage relationships with contractors and monitor contractor performance

Qualifications and Skills

• Mature and proactive, with evidence of having worked as a true business partner to the chief executive
• Demonstrated excellence in managing finance, accounting, budgeting, and reporting
• Skill in developing and recommending policies and procedures
• Non-profit experience preferred, including a solid understanding of nonprofit related financial requirements
• A collaborative and flexible style with a strong service mentality. Needs to be seen as a team player who is committed to lifelong learning
• A hands-on manager with integrity and a desire to work in a dynamic, mission-driven environment
• An effective communicator, with strong oral and written skills
• Experience working with subcontractors and vendors
• Excellent computer skills including knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, the internet, and email
• Highly motivated and able to work independently in a multi-task environment

Education / Experience

• A minimum of a BS in Accounting/Finance; CPA designation preferred
• At least 5 years of senior management experience in the areas of accounting, budgeting, and financial reporting
• Experience working with mental health organizations a plus
